They Told Us Something Wonderful Was Coming

“They Told Us Something Wonderful Was Coming makes me feel happy every time I read it (and I’ve read it several times now). You will think you know what’s coming. It will be a surprise; I promise! Bev Stone’s prose is sweet and I found myself wanting to turn the page to get closer to the answer, but hesitating so I could take in her bright and beautiful illustrations. Ms. Stone also understands page and overall book design. You are drawn in from the first page to the last. Its message is that of affirmation; the joy of life. This book is appropriate for any age; it is just uplifting.”

About Bev

"I stopped and looked at the world one time in a really quiet way and wondered how I’d missed those things that I looked at every day."

I wrote that as I was sitting in a pickup with a yellow legal pad on my lap, working on one of my stories. My husband, with fly rod in hand, was heading to a special spot on the bank of a nearby stream. It was a chilly March morning but the sun was just about to wake us up and cast its warm glow. I closed my eyes, as I often do to envision illustrations, hoping they would inspire the next page in my story. When I opened my eyes, I looked out the window and saw a pile of snow just beginning to light up in the morning sun. As the sun’s rays reached the snow I noticed something fascinating. I stopped writing, put my pencil down and took the time to really look. It was extraordinary. I could see each tiny little snowflake glistening in the warming sun; not just the pile of white that I might have seen if I hadn’t taken the time to really look, but, little, one of a kind wonders of nature, all piled together, sparkling in their individual splendor. It was a beautiful sight, one I’ve never forgotten. It reminded me that we all need to have those quiet moments where we actually take the time to sit back and notice the beauty around us. I hope I’ve captured some of that throughout my many years of painting and creating. I’m what some like to call, a ‘self taught artist’ or as I like to say, a ‘forever learning artist.’ I learn something new each time I pick up a pencil or a brush.

It’s a journey.

I’ve painted in watercolor and oil and have had fun sketching portraits and playing with clay over the years but it wasn’t until fairly recently that I started to experiment with writing and illustration. Now, 14 books in, I can say that it is an absolute joy to write and illustrate children’s books. Most of my books are rhyming stories, although not all. Rhyming or not, I really have a lot of fun with both the writing and the illustrations. I hope you can get a sense of that when reading my books. I continue to work on fine art pieces although not as often as before I started my journey with children’s books. This website is the best way to see what books I have out and hints of what’s coming next, but of course, you can also follow me on Instagram where I post updates.

Lastly, I’d like to thank everyone who has supported and encouraged me over the years and those who read my books or who pass them on to others. And a special note of appreciation for those who have taken the time to write reviews of my books.

Thank you.
